When I was in the fifth grade or something, I saw what was probably my first show during a school field trip to downtown Milwaukee, where a local all-black band, Mirage, played songs perched somewhere between pop, RnB, and then-current rock. I think their set may have been all covers, but I don't know for sure. This was during lunch, outside, on a sunny breezy day, and I remember liking them. And there were in-school talent shows and such before this, yadda yadda. But the first REAL SHOW I attended, without a parent or guardian, featuring an internationally known band, was Metallica at the Marcus Amphitheater in the summer after eighth grade. The openers were Danzig and Suicidal Tendencies. I don't know much granular detail surrounding Suicidal Tendencies, but I tend to think of them fondly even today. During their set, Mike Muir was seated on a couch because he'd recently broken his leg or foot or something. He would bang his head along to the music while sitting down and occasionally shout, "If you ain't SUICIDAL . . . you AIN'T SHIT!"
I like "Institutionalized," particularly the line, ". . . when I went to YOUR SCHOOLS, when I went to YOUR CHURCHES, when I went to YOUR INSTITUTIONAL LEARNING FACILITIES . . ."
Tempted to vote Not Crap, but I don't know a whole lot else about them.
