I'm from the Boston area, so I respond to "thank you" with "go fuck yourself."
Never considered "you're welcome" to be smarmy.

I followed him for a while until I realized that Never Trump Republicans are still Republicans. He had one good point if you look at it in the most charitable light possible. I am unsurprised that a known peddler of Steely Dan has bad opinions on kids these days.

I put these little things in hoping they will be appreciated by somebody so it's nice when they are. Still to my point - the script is as tight as a drum.

no arguments here, man. it's a masterpiece. and clarence is one of the greatest villains ever. his pivots from gleeful amoral sadism to frothing rage when he's thwarted in even the tiniest way are ::chef's kiss::

Only condescending if you're a ghoul who says it without being thanked, which I absolutely loathe. Otherwise, I take it as intended and assume the person genuinely means well.
I am more of a "no problem" guy myself, though, like ALF.

I feel like I’m saying it this way even when prompted by “thank you.” I think this is at least in part because I am frequently thanked for just doing my job. I don’t feel like I am doing anything special that deserves thanks, so I feel pompous when I say “you’re welcome” because I am very humble about what I do.
