Eww that went hard
Anyway, FM Bernardo, feel free to start new threads if you don't like this one.

Back to the topic.
Singling out Steely Dan for being studio perfectionists is sort of silly. Spending months, if not a year, in the studio was/is the norm for the "big time" artists from the '70s onward. How much money and time did Tusk take to record (...though I'm contradicting myself a bit as Tusk is intentionally not perfect)?
Aside from their first couple of albums, i.e., when they were an actual band, I just generally don't like Steely Dan's music. For me, that's the defining factor - not the process, but the end product. I do admit that Fagen's lyrics and subject matter are almost always interesting though.
Anyway, Black Sabbath's s/t album was recorded in a day. It's as close to perfect as music should be, i.e., not perfect but awesome. But I love plenty of albums that I'm sure were labored over for months that are just as "perfect".

To Bernardo's point there used to be tons of gatekeep-y PRF threads on why we were or weren't supposed to like this or that, etc. Shit can be exhausting. Like what you like and be secure with it.
Next up: threads about which artists have sold out.

LOL
Though, isn't that sort of an inherent part of C/NC?
My reply to Bernardo was genuine, not intended to be smart-assery. I like talking about stuff with all of you.

Thank you. Gunna check this out. I don't think I've ever really listened to Black Sabbath.

Would see a Steely Dan covers band played like Flipper (Will Shatter era).
Might join a Steely Dan covers band played like Flipper.
I'd probably go see Sloppy Dan.
How about a outlaw country SD cover band called Steely Dang?
How about a math rock SD cover band called Steely Don Caballero?
How about a goth rock SD cover band called Steely Danzig?
How about a nerd rock (think TMBG) SD cover band called Irony Daniel?
How about I shut up now?
How about an old-school hip hop group called RUN D.A.N.?

No. This is exactly what we're talking about.
...except you forgot to mention abuse on some level.
