right. except for the one time i saw them live, and on the only live recordings of them that i've heard (playing in germany).

when did you see them live?

mmmmm, that's good sarcasm.

The drummer for the current Sparks line up rocked the skins
like nobody's business.
She looked female to me.
ChoCko is back in town!

Oh, they're just a bunch of chicks, does it really matter?

You seem seem determined to blindly attack me because you think that I am saying that they are not a good band because they are women, I think they are not good band because they are not a good band.

You really are missing the point I'm try make. My primary issue is with boring music -this is my opinion, other people like them- my secondary point is that I think they punch above their weight artisticly, because they provide something for the people at the marketing dept to grab onto, not because they are "women", they could be circus midgets or a robot made by Honda.

I will eat my hat if you find a single press release, album review or live review that doesn't mention that they are all women within the first few sentences.

Having said all this I'm sure there are some people other there that genuinely like their music, I'm not saying they are brainwashed either. I am commenting on marketing and the novelty factor, but you seem to want to push this disccusion based on an argument that I never started because you can't see past this as an attack on your fellow "sisters", which it is not.

I've seen them live and listen to their records. It's ok but nothing special, nothing I haven't seen in a backroom bar somewhere on any given Friday night. I really like krautrock stuff, Stereolab etc etc, so it's not that I don't like the style of music. But, I do like to hear something new sometimes and Electrolane play droning 10 min one note jams... other bands have done it and do it a lot better... To be honest I don't really feel strongly about them either way.

other than those already mentioned

kat from the ex is one of the best, most creative drummers in rock music

the woman who plays drums for erase errata is good

i know a couple of female drummers who are of the mo tucker school that i like a lot--heather larimer of eux autres and beth nottingham of black lipstick. i think they play like that less b/c they are women and more b/c that's the best way to play the drums when you haven't been playing the drums very long.

and undoubtedly there are others i am not thinking of at this moment

of all female rock musicians, it seems that fewer of them, compared per capita to male rock musicians, feel the need to do a bunch of flashy bullshit

maybe being in a rock band is less of a default option for women, and therefore it's more likely women in rock bands are going to be doing it b/c they have an ear for music and want to express themselves.
