Safe As Milk is a lot easier to digest. Still the same crazy guy singing but the music is more "normal". Ry Cooder plays on it as well. You should be able to hunt down the Buddha Records version that has them bonus tracks. When you do, check out "Big Black Baby Shoes". I think it might be the first or second bonus cut on there. It might be the most amazing piece of music that I've ever heard.

TheSwede,

I have the original "Deceit" LP on Piano records via Nathan Yeager. I think I traded the THESE records CD for it. What a sucker!

I let Neuser borrow my copy of the "BLUE/YELLOW" 1st CD on These and he did some sorta Neuser thing like: "yeah it's kinda cool... I dig some of it... I'm not giving it back"

So I don't have the first one any more. I wonder if'll give it back now. It's been like, 8 years.

I also scored "Made Available" on the vinyl too... great record.

Oh and there's also those two EPs. I think I have 'em... on 12".

Good, good stuff worth every penny and moment searching for them.

Wow, youre right.

I will keep your three golden rules in mind next time I go see a band play

1. Size of venue = quality of music
2. Band has option of soundcheck = must be good band
3. The more people that give a shit about your band= the better the band

i don't need a band to be "embarrassed and looking like a fool in front of everyone in the bar. " that comes naturally after 8 beers.

...At one
time, the world record for the loudest band in the world was
held by Motorhead, at something like 125 decibels. ...you were playing just shy of Motorhead levels, in which
case, I salute you.

The decibel scale is logarithmic and the difference between 106 and 125 is much greater than it might appear at first glance. I'm surprised toomanyhelicopters didn't comment on this--isn't he some type of sound technician or some junk? Anyways the apparent difference would be about a 20% increase from 106 to 125, but in reality the difference is much greater.

yeah, if i was perusing the site, i woulda jumped on this immediately. 106dB and 125dB are *very* different sound pressure levels. 106 is still pretty crazy loud, but not as ridiculous as 125.

the whole SPL meter thing is a joke. was he using A-weighting or C-weighting? and where was he standing to measure the level? the right way to do it would be to take an SLM that lets you measure SEL and sweep it around the room slowly, so you're actually getting an average of the SPL all throughout the interior of the room, alleviating the huge range of readings you could get based on something as simple as reflected sound or room modes or stuff like that.

in short, yeah, the SPL meter thing is a bit of a farce. BUT, at the same time, it *is* a relative indicator. if every band that plays there shows up as 94dB on their particular SLM, and then you guys read at 106dB, then yeah, you're probably way too loud by their standards.

how close was he to the house mains speaker? cause i'd be willing to bet that you could read 106 at any self-respecting rock concert if you stood right in front of the speaker. even if the diffuse SPL throughout the room was more like 94 or something, you could read 106 if you got close enough to the speaker.

long story long, when the folks at the club tell you it's too loud, if you wanna play there again, turn down. if you don't, then start smashing shit and lighting shit on fire. that's the best advice i can give.
