You all know that Mr. Sage apparently built and/or owns his own record lathe. I think he also built his own distortion pedals, but I could be mis-remembering.
He is also a cancer survivor, as I recall. So he's got that going for him.

Utterly fantastic band (at least with regard to the early stuff; I don't know the later albums) with a lasting influence. Furthermore, they're one of the only bands I know of in which artists who attempt cover versions don't embarrass themselves. The Mono Men, Nirvana, and Crackerbash have all done fantastic covers of Wipers' songs.
It's gray and dim right now in Chicago. Perfect weather for the Wipers.

I bought Over the Edge on vinyl in the early '90s and really liked it. For some reason, I then bought later Wipers records that I didn't enjoy as much and sort of lost interest.
Last year I picked up the box set and Is This Real? totally blew me away. What a fantastic record.

I bought the 3 disc box set.
Got it 2 weeks ago, and it it has been on constant rotation ever since I opened the box. Excellent. Thanks EA!

One of the most important bands from the Northwest.
Their influence, musically and career wise, is matched by the insane quality of those first three records.
If they'd been from a bigger city, I'm sure they would of been bigger in the 80s.

That's just b/c it is super-double-gay.
"Is This Real?" and "Mystery" are also pretty gay songs.
I mean, literally, they're gay. And great.

The first three songs on
Is This Real? are remarkable. One of the best album kickoffs I have ever heard.
By "literally" do you mean they are about being gay, that they make you feel gay, or that they are "fruity-sounding"?

I'd also add any song with the word "alien" in the title.
