Guys,

See this site http://www.paradisepoker.com/shuffling.html to read about Paradise's shuffing. They are regarded as having the best shuffling software in the business, and most other sites are held to their example by the more serious users.

Tim, I seriously think that what you are seeing are patterns that aren't there. In a casino, a rough estimate of hands per hour is 35. Online it's usually right around 60 and sometimes as high as 120 (if you're playing short-handed). At a home game, you're lucky if you can get in 20 hands per hour.

It's not embarrassing. Here's what you do.

In the pokerroom software, go to options -> statistics -> and then turn on the statistics tracking feature.

When you do this, and after you play a hand in a ring game there will be a file called something like LIAMTexasHoldemReal.db in the file: Program Files/Pokerroom.com/Resources/Databases. (I'm not being exact as all this is on my other computer which I don't have in front of me right now).

Make sure that file is there, then open poker tracker, click the green stack of chips which should be called "Pokerroom.com auto-downloader or importer" (sorry not so specific). When you click that, it'll ask you to point it to a database file. It might even already have it autoloaded in the little address bar. If not, click Browse..., find the .db file mentioned above and use it.

Now, hit the "Force Import" button. See if it imports some of the hands that you have played. If it does, press the "Start Timer" button, and start playing poker. Your hands will be auto-imported for you as you play. (and you can move on to setting up GameTime+)

The best place to find out how to do all this stuff is to check the help sections of the Poker Tracker software. It is really quite good and has always helped me out. Make sure you don't skip any steps and you should be fine.

Don't be embarrassed to ask questions. I'd rather answer questions about this stuff than most things.

Let me know if you get it or not.

I guess I didn't think about it that way...

Still, they're cheating!

On a lighter note, I (virtually) won 1235 (virtual) dollars in one hand last night...

Hey Russ, thanks for the help. I've got the pokertracker working. I'm interested in using the information while playing.

As near as I can tell, it doesn't track tournament play. I've been playing the $5 sit-and-gos on Pokerroom....after playing ring games for a while and getting my ass handed to me, I've found that the cheap sngs allow me to play a lot of hands w/o spending too much money. People play sort of recklessly, but it seems that if you play pretty tight, you can clean up.

I'm not doing much better than breaking even, but I'm learning a ton....

yeah, sorry liam. poker tracker doesn't work for sit & go's at pokerroom. but works great for them at poker stars, etc. see the list at pokertracker.com.

you can learn a lot about playing sit & go's in the single table tournament forum over at twoplustwo.com.

i'm not much of a tournament player myself. and after this last week, i don't feel like much of a poker player in any regard, but i'm glad you're having fun.

keep us updated.

Updated today to version 1.2

Mainly the update involves the mess that is going on with PokerEdge. Party Poker has freaked out on the PokerEdge users and has sent them threatening emails telling them that they are basically cheating, their accounts could be closed and their balance forfeited. Of course, everyone is freaked out, but it's kind of ironic that PokerEdge is an affiliate of Empire Poker. Latest word from PokerEdge is that they are working out an agreement with Party and will let us know more later. So, anyway. If you want to use PokerEdge, which I don't think anyone on here is doing anyway, don't use it at Party or Party skins.

There's some other stuff I added as well, but most of it has been mentioned in this thread already, except PokerAce.

Hope all the pokering is going well for everyone.

Trust the reputable sites with a small dose of your money, and play small stakes to start with. Tiny, if need be. If you can afford a computer, you can afford $0.01-$0.02 stakes hold 'em.
Play money is so loose and crazy, it isn't much use for playing 'real' poker of any hue. -

I think this is bad advice. - You must put in 200-500 dollars to win at online poker. - This is what many, many other people are doing, and they can afford to put 25 bucks all in on a flush draw to beat you trips. they have bankroll, and if you don't, you'll soon be playing with scared money.
Once I put in 30, and made it up to 180 by playing (some crzy) ring games.. and tournys. One day I decided to just play poker really well for the whole afternoon. I soon lost it all. - fuck!
I plan to play again, not for fun, but for winning when i can save the money.

- some have good luck with starting with lower amts, but I would caution against it.
