I have nothing of any worth to add, just that hopefully everyone we know (and hell, most of everyone we don't) is all right. This is fucking tragic.
Rabbit, please check in.

43I'm glad to hear you guys are ok. I hope your family and friends are as well.
Looks like the "War on Terror (in Iraq)" hasn't successfully curbed any terrorist activity. What shit, and what an awful result.
Billions of dollars and tons of military force, and it did nothing to protect against this. Perhaps it even fueled the motive, or even detracted from what should have been done.
Wish you Londoners the best.

wow, they now reckon over 30. there's still a few people i've yet to hear back from, but i'm sure they'll be fine. someone told me the brighton train station had a bomb in it as well, though i've yet to be able to confirm that. eek.

Let's not do this again.
We are not to blame for this shit. GWB/Tony Blair are not to blame for this shit.
The people who did it and composed it are to blame.
However much we doubt the 'reasons' of our leaders for the war in Iraq etc., there's even less reason to take the 'reasons' of terrorists at face value. These people are motivated--demonstrably and repeatedly--by a totalitarian, baldly destructive impulse. Whatever our faults, we cannot lay claim to that.

46This is bad.
It sounds like everyone on here was unharmed. Though I suppose they wouldn't be posting if they were.
Best to all of you.

47I had to wake up very early to teach summer school, so I was hearing about this just a few hours after it began. I kept the radio on, but immediately logged on to the Electrical Audio Forum and followed the beginning of this thread. Thank you for sharing with us. I'm finding it very meaningful and much better than CNN's repeated use of the word "gruesome."
All the best,

In retrospect, I should have stepped off the stage and utter-kicked Mrs. O'Leary's cow.

48On Channel 4 news I'm sure they just said that 14 people died on the explosion on the bus in Tavistock Square? But officially the death toll is 2? I'm sure I didn't mishear it???
They've also just shown pictures of the front of the headquarters of the British Medical Association (right where the bus was) stained with blood. It's terrible.

The latter point is undeniably true, at least at street level.
Further up the chain I disagree. And I think that's Gio's point. And when it comes to ties of culpability between leadership (Bush/Blair) and people, we're rather fussy about the elements of geo-political identification we will accept ownership of.
Surely Americans (and their Brit cohorts) have killed or instigated the killing of more people over the past couple years than any other group outside the African continent. Call the motivation less "totalitarian" or "destructive" if that makes sense, but the profits and carnage (and dare I say fallout) remain(s).
The most important thing, today, is the people of London. We all wish the people of London and anyone with friends and relations there all the best.
Champion Rabbit, where are you?
