I guess we will. But I would like to point out that whilst I share your secularism, I dislike your aggressive negative generalisations about others (such as your accusation of insanity rather than the lighter charge of understandable delusion towards those of the faith). Which is obviously where we disagree. My Physical chemistry tutor back at university is one of the most evangelical aetheists in the country, but I have never come across him going all Kilroy in his delivery.

If you aren't interested in discussion then I would urge to to refrain from posting your opinions on a 'General Discussion' forum lest you find yourself disappointed.

This is a great, great forum full of intelligent and interesting people and opinions; rudeness and aggression seem happily incongruous here.

I agree, but I'm trying to make a point, one that I was waiting for someone to reply before making:

It is that we live in an open society, and should be glad that we are free to be offended and to offend other people. Can you now see the point that my agressive post was trying to make? Sorry for the convoluted why of making my point, but I think it is very positive we live in such a society.

What do you mean by Islamists? All Muslims?

Nope, I mean Islamists. Sorry to cut off your rather long reply.

You shouldn't put words in my mouth and then try and have a thread-fight. It's boring.

Provide a definition. I'm sorry Gramsci, but you can be an arrogant, rude git sometimes.

Spare me the indignation. I am an active secularist and personally find all religious faith deeply offensive to my humanity and intelligence.

There is no rational foundation in any religious faith and I find the respect afforded to "people of Faith" nothing short of a form of mass insanity. In fact I think that most people that are not secular humanists are either, not particularly interested in religion/philosophy -not a problem, or theists, who are suffering from a form of mental illness.

This is a statement and starting a debate on this is not something I'm interested in. You say the points I made are offensive and I'm sure you regard the ones in this post offensive as well-, but I find religion in general highly offensive. Is it ok to offend a secularist but not a theist? I guess we'll just have to act like adults and get over it.

whilst there may be no foundation for any religious faith i feel your condemnation of anyone with beliefs to be suffering from mental illness is generalisation and ignorance of the highest order. I am by no means religious. I do however have a Catholic wife and accept that is her belief.
Anyone that has a belief in something and uses that to get thru their life, without pushing their views onto someone else or harming others, is fine by me. there are people in this world that need that crutch and it helps them. In times of trouble my wife calls on her faith..she could reach for a bottle get drunk and go for a drive and kill someone but she doesnt . her crutch is god and it helps her. no harm done.
please be careful with those comments there fella..

See previous post on "freedom to offend" etc. I hope you'll see why I was trying to offend you. Trust me on this, it is a good thing

Yes, let's declare peace. Agree to disagree and all that. This kind of blood pressure yo-yo-ing on a Friday is plain wrong.

I'd better get back trying to learn how to use SAP. If any of you know what I mean by that, then you have my sympathy. It's sunny outside - why aren't offices convertible?
