Just got back from them playing Million Now Living Will Never Die... plus a hour and quarter set of "the hits".
Fucking mind blowing, in my "Top 5, best ever gigs I've seen."
It really restored my love of their music, Crest and Salt the Skies were amazing...!

42I was at a record store a few weeks ago and, after seeing TNT on the shelf, I decided to buy it. I remembered hearing good things about them, but I didn't remember them ever making an impression on me. Nevertheless I bought it and, within a minute or so of listening to it on the way home, I knew I made a pretty good chance buy.
The album becomes an amorphous mix of electronic music towards the end, but the first half of the album is excellent. I'll have to look into Millions Now Living Will Never Die.

Did they do anything from the first album?

44Tortoise fucking is amazing to watch live. I will forever be on record stating that the best concerts I have been to have been Tortoise shows. The TNT stuff comes off really great live, with the visual impact of the dual drummers and all.
But I am a music geek... I like to watch dudes and machines. My wife was
bored. so there.
I feel they lost something after Pajo left, something pretty, subtle and melodic. You can sort of hear that "thing" they lost on that first instrumental "papa M" record, But it's nowhere to be found on "Standards" (though I really like Standards). Of, course it seems, that Pajo lost that "thing" too not much later.
Oh and I managed to sell my vinyl copy of "Rhythms, Resolutions..." for $80. So not crap for that as well.

Jealous. Sounds like fun.

I remember the live version being like 10x better than the record. Looking forward to the box set, hopefully they'll put "Gamera" on there as the prices for it are ri-diculous.

47I think "Millions..." was before Jeff P joined. The sound changed for the better in my estimation. I have only seen them once live but I really enjoyed it.

The second set had a bunch of stuff, they just kept playing, every time I thought it was over, on they'd come again...
First, yep Tin Cans and Twine, Cornpone Brunch.

50It took me a while to get into it, but All Around You is now my favorite Tortoise records. Just took a few listens to sink in.
I will always love the first three records. They are perfect. They fell a little with Standards, but now that All Around You has grown on me so much, I need to go back and give that record another chance.
One of the best groups of all time. Abso-freakin-lutely not crap, yo.
