Right? Or like a 50s black beauty LP, or late 60s SG with mini hums like Townshend played?
Not to get all pedantic, but the late 60s SG Specials Pete played had P-90s — which I mention because Epiphone actually
is making SGs with P-90s now, in a couple of configurations. They of course have the Epiphone headstock, but at $430–450 MSRP, I can’t say I haven’t found myself tempted on occasion.

Gah, of course he did! I saw a pic the other day of a 60s SG with mini hums and it tricked my brain. Anyway, that's good to know. I hadn't seen that. My first guitar was an SG but after not playing one for 20 years they feel odd and alien to me now. An SG with P-90s is a great sound. Especially though a Hiwatt!

Can you imagine if Epi was doing like Squier and making really nice, super affordable Firebirds and Explorers and Flying Vs in different period correct configurations?
Well lookit this:

We've got an FM who's an undercover Epi operative!

Wow, cool! If those start showing up on the used market for half that price, and the build is decent, that's pretty great!
It's too bad they don't do the straight banjo tuners on the Firebirds anymore. I always thought that was so cool.

Yeah those straight tuners on a reverse Firebird look so badass.
I'd said earlier I'd buy an affordable Firebird in a second, $649 seems totally reasonable, and I almost bought one on a whim last night. But then I thought 1. a big piece of mahogany is probably going to be too heavy for my feeble shoulders, and 2. I know I'm going to hate the gloss finish, so it's likely to end up just sitting on a stand not getting played. And I can't afford $649 for something just to look at.
But if I *could* I would, and I'd get that V and a korina explorer to go with it.

I sold my firebird to afford an amp I wanted - I liked the way it looked and sounded but I never liked playing it. The balance was weird and however I played it meant I was scraping my right hand on the bridge which was also uncomfortable.

I never liked playing it.
I never liked NOT playing Soundgarden riffs on mine.

I found a 70s Firebird that I drove across Louisiana to pickup for a good price a couple years ago.
It is a little cumbersome if I haven’t picked it up in a while, but honestly, I’ve had to get used to the feel of every guitar I’ve ever owned, so it doesn’t bother me.

1: Get Reis-like with a power tool and weight relieve it
2: There's always time to learn the art of shinebreaking these over-glossy new guitars. The perfect hobby for one's elder years, as you pass the winters
Or for that $650 get two super paranormal models that are now on sale on fender's site.
