The singer from Portishead and bass player from Talk Talk made an album years ago and it’s fuckin great. I like it best when it veers away from the Portishead high drama and intrigue, but it’s great the whole way through. Recorded by engineer bad ass Phill Brown and apparently Beth does vocals through a 57 and still sounds like god.

I’d thought it was a kind of home recording deal but apparently it’s only partially so. Still, it’s beautifully done with all sorts of orchestration.

Have been completely out of the loop on Lorde recently but because of this post I decided to look up her latest. Thoughts:

- She's (still) gorgeous
- Song is meh, but for radio fodder it isn't awful
- If wife or kids listened to this, I wouldn't be at all upset

My daughter and I bonded over Melodrama. Watching Lorde roll out the cringe-inducing Solar Power album complete with George Michael interpolated songs, spa references, and daytime TV performances I found an unusually clever pop mega star had gotten understandably lost (the lead off single from it was bordering on the old 30 second challenge thread around here). I can see her trying to conjure her former glory, which is never the way to make good art.

Agree with your three points though.

The music isn't bad at all thanks to the original lineup sans Glen RIP, but it's more than a little funny hearing creepy Alice vocals come out of born-again conservative Alice.
