Women Talking - premise of the movie is unfortunately very real. Themes of the movie are good. Kept my interest, though was distracted from liking the movie too much, thinking that elements of it, particularly the outcome, were unrealistic. Fine film, but subject matter is such that I likely won’t watch it again.
Seemed like I had watched everything new I wanted to see, soooooo..
The Godfather - it had been a long time since I had watched it. Yep, still really good. Lots of interesting deaths. That car bomb that killed Michael’s wife in Sicily.. shit, I had forgotten about that somehow. Devastating scene.
The Godfather: Part 2 - only made it 30 minutes into the movie and fell asleep. Not the movie’s fault.

On-Gaku: Our Sound
Really, very funny animated film about three Japanese high-schoolers who take a break from beating up other schools to start a rock band

Caught the new sci-fi blockbuster The Creator. It's as the reviews say - really impressive and fun visuals (that crib from Simon Stålenhag) but dire, unsurprising script. Worth it for the scenery but don't get your hopes up about anything else.
What a waste.

Under the Silver Lake.
Trying to tackle big ideas, looks and sounds great, but ultimately a fun disaster. Worth seeing IMO.

Yeah, I didn't know where it was going, but it was an entertaining ride. Also, Riley Keough is a babe.

I tried to do a "Best 50", but I couldn't actually think of 50 movies. Guess that means I'm quality over quantity?
The criteria here is basically that each of these have stayed with me in some particular important way. There are others that I really like but that aren't *that* kind of movie, or that I have rewatched more times but aren't *that* kind of movie, and so on.
Anyway this is what I came up with. Wrote them down as I thought of them so the first few are the most obvious to me, but the order is kinda random.
Cloud Atlas
Harmony (2015)
Lady Bird
The Babadook
Failan
All About Lily Chou-Chou
Last Life in the Universe
Ronia: The Robber's Daughter
The Journey to Melonia

The Velvet Queen (currently on Kanopy): nature photography doc about laying in wait for the Tibetan snow leopard. Kitschy at times but essential if you are a sucker for these sort of images. Music by Warren Ellis (mostly good) with brief guest vocals by Nick Cave (not to my liking).
