It only takes one or two on your foe list to make this a much more rational and functional discussion.
It's funny that FM AttackChimp 3 pages ago was like "there's no way leftists believe any of that right!?" and then here we are.

Or maybe it's not a leftist position at all. Seems closer to Ron Paul or Tulsi Gabbard in some ways.

There is definitely a strain of leftism stuck in the battles of the 1960s and 1970s when nationalist leftist like the IRA and PLO were all the vogue. There's scene in the film Munich - I know - that has the characters all in a safe house with the IRA, PLO etc... it was a Hollywood, attempt to show some equivalence.

From my experience with these people it's My Enemy's Enemy stuff, anti-Imperialism, forgetting that it isn't only the US and its proxies that "do imperialism". But we are not in the world of the Cold War and we're not dealing with giant ideological power blocks anymore. I'm not sure Trump and Putin believe in anything other than power. For all the flaws of the US and USSR, at the heart there was a battle of ideas. I actually find this drift into vibes and power more worrying than the Cold War.

First thing - the foe list. I have two people on it and this thread is way more enjoyable.

Ukraine: I don't understand it. I guess I can only say that lies are OP. I know that's a glib response, but I got nothing else. Anyone can say shit like NATO started the war, and they can claim it from whichever political side they like. I am a leftist/progressive that believes Russia invaded Ukraine in an unjust and illegal war - am I lying? Seems obvious that I'm not. I'm having a real problem sorting motivations on this topic.

I mean, there's the illusion of leftist goals at the end of the road they're advocating we take, but that road is not the road any human should ask other humans to travel to get to the other side.

IOW I think it's a foolish and juvenile leftist who wants to further current violence in the name of a "better" outcome. AKA accelerationism.

It's sounding more like Trump partly blamed Ukraine because Zelenskyy was "rude" to him. He shut down his security-for-minerals quid pro quo talk. That's how petty Trump is...

He didn't partially blame them. ...and yes, that's exactly how it went.

No, he entirely blamed Ukraine. But I don't it was solely his desire to please Putin.
