Here I confess that I’ve only dipped into the rest of the Cromwell trilogy, which means I’ve read passages and been distracted by whatever domestic diversion’s lighting up my evening. But those passages are tremendous! In a similar manner, I’ve sampled “A place of greater safety”; those passages are also tremendous!
Belated edit: her essays are magnificent, and this one is a notorious, majestic example:

A DJ on the Bay Area jazz station this afternoon said that he thought Sanders was living in Sacramento, which seems.......not cosmic. Maybe that's in the eye of the beholder?

It was probably more cosmic when he was there.

A lot of famous musicians have passed recently, but this man played with John Fucking Coltrane. Most can't say they've played with some of history's greatest musicians. Ron Carter is one of the only guys left in that class.

I can't find any clips of it, but Coolio was once a contestant on the game show Pyramid, when Donny Osmond was the host. Years ago, during the summer, I happened to have the TV turned on one morning, and there he was, sitting at one of those tables. It was surreal to see him there.
RIP. 'Fantastic Voyage' and '1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin' New)' are still solid, feel-good jams.
