Fly, how about you start handing homeless people lit firecrackers?
Then you are both getting something out of it

i usually hand those to the handicapped.
in a private message that damned fly wrote:i talk in absolutes, but live in greys. anyone willing to make and hold an opinion of me based off words in a message board is an obvious cock. i could pad my posts with the actual stories of golden deeds done for the needy, but i didn't do any of those things to inflate my ego or increase my self worth. i did it because i felt like, and just so happens, sometimes i don't feel like it. i know when i'm being sold, and i know when i'm looking at a deserving bum. a shame others don't have the filters. you can always spot an addict, you can always smell a drunk, and if you have half a brain you can spot a fake. these are the majority of the homeless around here and i have no reason to help them. so, for me giving change is crap. doesn't mean i never have, and doesn't mean i never do, it just means more often than not i'm throwing money away, and i'm a broke ass motherfucker who counts his pennies.
if you still got yer dander up over something i said, take a walk.

473100 people voted, but it's 42% to 57%? That ain't right. Anyway, y'all are some cold-ass mother-fuckers.
You don't have to figure out the social and political ramifications of this argument. Life is short. People are hungry. Give 'em some money for food. It's a bit of change, for chrissake. If you can't afford it, that's a different story. The cruelty level of some of the comments is disturbing; the poll results--shocking.
I certainly don't give to every homeless person I see (I see a lot), but you do what you can. Help a fellow human being out, ya know?
Fly--You are cold as ice.

475So, Fly, to recap:
Sometimes you mean things you type, sometimes not. We shouldn't take you seriously.
We're wrong about this giving money to the homeless thing. You're sorry, but that's all.
You are actually generous to other people all the time, you just don't mention it because other people don't need to know about it. We know this because you mentioned it to let us know about it.
It's the internet, we shouldn't get so worked up.
If we think being generous to other people is a good idea, then we aren't being generous enough to hold that opinion, as far as you, an un-generous person, are concerned. We shouldn't be all high and mighty when there's more we could be doing.
Sometimes you play devil's advocate.
Is that about it?
I'm trying, honestly, but I can't see a single part of your discourse that isn't pure bullshit. Either you mean things or you don't. Either you're trying to communicate, or you're not. Either you're full of shit or you're not.
When you play the "baffle them" card by suggesting that you are both above the discussion and in it, both sincere and insincere, both earnest and just saying things for effect, you are merely insulating yourself from criticism. This also invites all of us to write you off entirely.
Done.

A double bluff, perhaps?

478Being generous because it makes you feel good to be generous is not a good reason to not be generous.

480I think Dill agrees with you, Venkman. He wrote being generous for the sake of feeling good, is not a reason to stop.
