Just started watching Die Hard.
Merry Christmas!!
Merry Christmas!!
I’d never thought of this as a Christmas movie, but now it seems blindingly obvious that it is one. So thanks for that! It’s probably the Coen brothers’ most underrated movie and is a personal favorite of mine.A_Man_Who_Tries wrote: Fri Dec 29, 2023 1:11 pm Tomorrow will be the holiday viewing of The Hudsucker Proxy. The greatest Christmas movie of all.
Everyone with me was blown away but I kind of felt like it was the Primus of movies. I dunno.. that's probably on me.rsmurphy wrote: Sat Dec 30, 2023 11:48 am Poor Things is hilarious and surreal. Loved it. Just left wondering how one can transplant a baby brain into a human skull.

At least that one felt appropriate to the era (tech hyper awareness etc) and didn't try to cram Dadaism and Steampunk into every scene.
I don't understand the dadaism reference but was all on board for the Victorian futurism. Shit was gorgeous, dreamy, and even nightmarish once they made it to Alexandria. l almost squealed at the musicians for the dance sequence and loved the bubble-making contraption connected to Godwin. Started thinking about Dogtooth and wondered if the oldest daughter wasn't as controlled would she have had a parallel adventures to Bella's, controlling her means of production, licking keyboards, furious jumping, and whatnot.penningtron wrote: Sun Dec 31, 2023 9:24 am At least that one felt appropriate to the era (tech hyper awareness etc) and didn't try to cram Dadaism and Steampunk into every scene.
Thanks for this, I believe it was your post that had me looking to see if it was screening here. Got a babysitter for the first time in forever and saw it with my partner, really enjoyed it for the same reasons.zorg wrote: Mon Dec 11, 2023 9:43 am New Miyazaki. I haven't been to the cinema in years. I don't know what I think of it exactly, but very happy it exists. Just do yourself a favor and let this wash over you. Very absurdist, dream-logic Lynchian/Wizard of Oz fugue-state thing, and as always exceedingly beautiful to look at. Those fucking parakeets. Jesus.
