Re: Balls Effects / Balls Amplification
472Got my Zaytone today! Had about 10 minutes to noodle with it but it’s a lot of fun. I played it with a Rick 330 with hi-gain pickups into a drip edge Princeton. The “fuzz” knob brings the fuzz, even at zero so you’re not gonna get transparent clean boost out of this, but who would want that in a fuzz. As I cranked up the fuzz it was useable and had good definition all the way up to 10, but it just got really thick. Feel like you could use this think with the fuzz dimed and still have a pretty tight sound.
Tone knob can go from swampy to ice picky over the range. Just noodling by myself it sounded nice at 5 but in a band context I could see how the whole range could be useful, depending what you’re going for.
Overall this sounds really tight and hi-fi compared to the reactive, sputtery fuzz face clones normally on my board.

Re: Balls Effects / Balls Amplification
473Tried it out last night at the end of my signal chain, by itself and with overdrives running into it, and it's a glorious sound I'd describe as "Luxury Muff." I'm going to put it at the beginning of my chain today and see what it's like there. With it at the end, my wah wah kind of disappears, so I'm looking forward to hearing it before the wah for that thick filtered sound. Not sure where in the chain it'll end up permanently, but it's fun to have a fuzz as I usually only fuck with overdrives.
Re: Balls Effects / Balls Amplification
474I think only half the Zaytones have arrived at their destinations but in the meantime I filled an amp order.
Identical to the last amp I made save for different grill cloth on the front. An AB165 Bassman circuit in a very minimal enclosure (15" width). Normal channel only and with an added Master Volume. UK voltage.

476OK it's siiiick at the front end, love it through the wah, and I tried it both with 9V (using the supplied battery) and with 18V from my pedal brick, and I definitely prefer 18V because there's "more headroom as I always have read, which in this case seems to mean less compressed notes that swell out especially in the low mids. My favorite setting is Vol and Tone all the way up. Fuzz all the way down. This stacks best with any and all of the 3 other layers of overdrive on my board. I'll post a demo asap.ChudFusk wrote: Tried it out last night at the end of my signal chain, by itself and with overdrives running into it, and it's a glorious sound I'd describe as "Luxury Muff." The PALS doesn't kick in until 1:38 so you might want to skip ahead. Bridge humbucker on a Warmoth superstrat into a Randall pre and other rackmount secrets.
The first minute and a half is a demonstration of the levels and combinations of overdrives, which are a Guv'nor style OD and 2 identical Dumble-style ODs at different settings, all of which can be alternated or stacked. Don't expect any shredding because I just played the same couple of dumb riffs on repeat to keep it simple. From 1:38 on it's the PALS by itself and then with different combos of OD, and eventually the rest of the board comes in (wah, dual octaver, and reverb). It will get tedious after a while for any but the deeply curious, so to get straight to the Balls just listen from 1:38 until you get bored.
