WHAT???
What Are You Listening To Right This Second?
4703Led Zeppelin II
Five thoughts:
1) Playing "Whole Lotta Love" for your little sister is awesome. Comment: "How does this add to the song?" - about the theremin section. I think she liked it - she loves Back in Black, so she should like "Whole Lotta Love."
2) The Flaming Lips had to have ripped off "Living Loving Maid (She's Just A Woman)" for "Can't Stop The Spring" on Oh My Gawd!!!
3) John Bonham's drumming on "Living Loving Maid" - especially the bridge/solo parts - is fucking phenomenally great; much more of a testament to his rhythmic genius than "Moby Dick."
4) The sequencing of Led Zeppelin II has been ripped off by so many bands that it's hilarious. Think about it: two rocking potential singles right at the beginning, then a longish jam, then a ballad, then two rockers one after the other, then a slower one that exploits dynamics, then another jam, then a weird goof/rocker. I'm pretty sure a lot of bands have employed variants on that sequencing for many albums. (Example: Black Sabbath, Paranoid.)
5) The bass sound on"Heartbreaker" is possibly the greatest heavy bass sound ever. It is truly unbelievable-sounding with subwoofers. John Paul Jones ran his Jazz Bass through a Leslie cabinet and double-tracked it.
