S&P down another 5% today, with the dollar crashing as well.
Apparently, Fox News—for the first time ever—stopped showing stock prices on its chyron. (Not sure if this is true, but I’m not going to verify it.)

Markets crashing benefits someone, somewhere.
And I'm guessing those are the people that are telling Trump what to do right now.

Fun, fun, fun. What a time to be an American!
Is Trump tanking the economy so that oligarchs and other rich pricks can buy up stocks and assets real cheap??
Is this an attempt to further put the squeeze on normal people so that they'll all be too exasperated and resourceless to do anything about it when things get even worse?
If that's the case, he's an even bigger menace to the world that many people might have thought.
If that the not the case--if he genuinely thinks this will work out in the U.S. economy's favor--he's an even bigger idiot than he's let on.

Can he just be both? He seems like both.

A sort of lose-lose-win-win situation, checking all boxes. I could see that.

Probably both. I think at least the first.
I definitely do NOT think that he gives any shits about the potential "benefits" of the tariffs contributing to additional American manufacturing 5-10 years from now. He'll likely be dead by then.
He wants a Mao-esque memorial in the National Mall.

A destabilization effort in the guise of a supposed "shot in the arm" for the economy.

Headline story on Fox:
"Trump DOJ, Education Dept form task force to protect female athletes from 'gender ideology' in schools, sports
Trump administration's new Title IX Special Investigations Team says it will crack down on biological males in sports"
Jamie Joseph By Jamie Joseph Fox News
Another headline:
"Trump tariffs appreciated by US shrimpers: 'threw us a lifeline'"
and
"Kamala Harris’ reaction to Trump’s landslide victory revealed in bombshell book"
These people have a different story.

I don’t agree with this. There are, I’m sure, a handful of traders who made the Big Short this week and will profit handsomely, but no, crashing markets don’t really ever benefit anyone.
(At least, not in the short term. I’ll keep making my regular 401k contributions.)

Hanlon's Razor is a false dichotomy.
