Never had a chance to met Steve but I always refer to him when I need to know something about recording music. Happy that the community will always be here to remember him. Amazing!

The world got robbed of an interesting chapter there.

Sounds kinda Walter Becker/Magnum P.I.-esque.

I think if I remember correctly it was the big island specifically, which if you know anyone from there (my spouse’s whole band are from Kona/hilo), would’ve made retirement all that more amazing. If I have that wrong apologies

Aw, the Big Island is a perfect retirement plan. (It's mine, specifically in Hilo.)

A new article has been written about Steve, this one from pokernews focusing on his love of poker. Both sometimes maybe fm oscillator and myself provided a lot of the source material. This is a lovely tribute and bittersweet as Steve always wanted to have something like this written up about our home game, probably the only thing I’ve ever saw him want publicized, hah.

Many forum members photos and names mentioned, of course.

It's easy enough for the world to appreciate Steve's outsized influence on culture but the personal marks and empty spaces left in the hearts of family and intimate friends aren't as discernable. Deep sorrow can accompany love, and I wish nothing but continued comfort for you and those who knew him tenderly. Thanks for sharing a relatable discussion on grief and loss.

I did not respond in this thread with my own thoughts most likely due to the fact that I’m still not done processing this new reality. However, the year ending in a few hours has me thinking a lot about this year and how it basically all boils down to that morning, thought about every day since. One thing that I’ve been doing is writing more, moving forward with an idea Steve presented to me earlier this year that I laughed off at the time. Been trying to write about music I love and a few weeks ago I had my most recent “acceptance of reality” moment while listening to Uzeda and I wrote about it - not just their incredible band but the man who captured it. I don’t know when we will all grasp what we lost.

My thoughts:
