I’d guess they would’ve been happy to off him straight off, but the wheels of justice turn slowly. It took the US 10 years to kill Bin Laden. I don’t think I heard to many calls for due process. Also, I’m fairly certain the Christian ethos is to turn the other cheek….not that it’s taken to heart.

Not at all surprised by the result.

Onward to April.

I’m surprised! I’d expected the runoff to be between Lightfoot and Vallas. Johnson picked up a lot momentum toward the end.

When the incumbent presided over a term that many perceived to leave Chicago in worse shape than before, and when you split the vote between nine candidates, it doesn't surprise me.

Also, my admittedly imperfect exurbanite perception is that Lightfoot and Garcia spent too much effort in their campaigns attacking each other, and it sunk both of them.

Wow will Chicago have a decent mayor for once. (I don't know a ton about Vallas admittedly)

I got the impression he’s like Philly’s Alan Domb, would have been a Republican 20 years ago.

I'm skeptical of Vallas, but he has run a positive campaign so far, and his main message (make Chicago safer) is rather popular right now.

From what I can tell, it seems like the others either didn't have a lot of dirt on Vallas (other than that he has the support of some republicans), or for some reason were too busy attacking each other to attack him that much.

During Johnson's victory speech last night, he did start attacking Vallas, but it was honestly a bunch of hot takes and not much of substance ("He fails at everything he does!" ... really?) . I do like Johnson and think he has a good chance to beat Vallas, but not like that.
