I've praised the Rocktron Metal Plaent before for that very reason.
It has a 4 band parametric built in.
You can dial in about anything you need, and it's easier to deal with that a 4574 band EQ. It will give you limitless choices.

I mean really, if you bump a few sliders on the Akai you'll have a hard time figuring out how to get your sound back in a hurry. It's not like "the third knob is at 12 o'clock and the second one it at 2."

The Rocktron is about $40 used.
Does Metal, 60's groovy fuzz, and skraight up distortion.
Built well.

I will say the Akai stuff is very nice, generally.

They're ridiculously overpriced for what they are. Oscillating fuzz pedals and feedback loops are two of the easiest circuits to build.
