Actually I agree with Steve, "serious" debate on any web-forum is about as useful and pleasurable as masturbating with a cheese-grater.

I disagree. On most forums, yes, it's pointless, but not this one. I like discussing things on here and I learn stuff, and sometimes have my views challenged. I can think of many "real life" discussions I've had that were truly pointless, because the people participating were fuckwits.

Personally I’m going to boycott these pointless threads from now on and I encourage likeminded others to do the same.

I take it the two additional posts you've already added to this thread since writing that statement constitute some kind of "cooling off" period?

(If I used emoticons, I'd put a wink here.)
Back off man, I'm a scientist.

over 6 billion people on the planet. abortion should be legal anytime, all the time, like up to the 8th month or some shit. after the kid's born, you should be able to give it up for adoption easily if you don't really want it. it's easy to argue that the people who get pregnant on accident are either 1) idiots, or 2) weak. if you don't want a baby, and you're not an idiot, use condoms *and* birth control pills *and* pull out. the combination of the three is pretty solid. if you can't pull that shit off, DON'T HAVE SEX. if you can't figure out how to effectively use birth control, and you can't resist the urge to have safe sex, then you're both an idiot *and* weak, and the last thing this planet needs is your baby added into the pool of jackasses we've already got.

is that hot-button enough? will i be elected?

PS - for pro-lifers who use the argument that life begins at conception, i like to ask them how many times have they celebrated their conception day, as opposed to their birthday. it's a dumb question, but sometimes it's fun to watch people scramble for an answer if they don't have one prepared.

Interestingly enough, here in Taiwan, and I would imagine in mainland China as well, one's first nine months inside your mother IS considered part of your age. Maybe that's why there's so many people here...
