Played one of thease Eastwood bases today. they don't play bad but the pickup is totaly dofferent than the one on ampegs. It is not of the same design at all, it might sound better with the strings that he is suggesting but it is just a regular pick up not the condenser bridge arrangement.

Most dub sounding cabinet I ever heard was a giant Acoustic folded horn with a single 18" speaker, but you had to be about fifteen feet away to appreciate it. It was as big as an ampeg 8x10.

I tried doing a search for the Acoustic amp you speak of with the google images to see if we were thinking of the same thing. This is what I got, though:

Fuck it, play through that thing.

Ewww...no. I've played through one of those Univox heads before and it was pretty bad.

No, Acoustic made some of the best cabs of all time. Two of my personal favorites were the 301 and the 361. The problem with them is that you have to stand 10-20 feet back to truly appreciate how fucking awesome they are. I'm a huge Acoustic fan, and have a few of them. I saw this really cool picture on EGC's MySpace page...

I'd love to hear (and play) that!

Also it may not help but, one of the old Dub/Reggae tricks was to use really old bass strings so theres no "brightness" there at all, i remember reading that Jah Wobble took up this trick for PiL at least....
