For your listening pleasure:
CyclotronSpinach Blasters live mp3This band are as fantastic as they are outlandish.

'Hippie leanings' is perhaps a gross understatement. Nonetheless, Gong are band that I'm inexplicably fond of.

captain beefheart.
I feel like I have only heard of him, but have only heard about 30 seconds of his music, and would probably have trouble identifying it (which is ironic, given its reputation for idiosyncracy).
Same goes for the Residents.
Also, I probably would have trouble telling the difference between Woody Guthrie, Arlo Guthrie, and John Fahey. I would have more trouble, even, distinguishing Charley Patton from Blind Lemon Jefferson. How embarassing.
I can, however, distinguish Charley Patton from Mike Patton, which is a start...

As ashamed as I am to admit it... I've never heard a song by Naked Raygun, either.
for those looking to get some NR experience under their belts, I would recommend
Basement Screams -Short EP but completely awesome. Best record out there.
Throb Throb- Almost as good.
Understand\Jettison - Both ok. Neither is stellar.
The rest is forgettable.
My friend, All Rise is certainly not forgettable. And yet you have clearly forgotten it.

I don't know anything at all by any of these bands, but I understand they might have similar fanbases(?):
Can
Faust
Neu!
Pavlov's Dog
Atomic Rooster
Nektar
Who would recommend any of this, please speak up and convince me.

fugazi, beyond red medicine (which is a fine fucking album) I don't know much.
slint, I have yet to get into slint. I heard there a gas! but I never knew where to begin. I have seen a couple live videos, but I don't know if does them justice.
sonic youth, I've heard day dream nation, and sonic nurse. I hear they have like 20 albums.
blonde redhead, from what I've heard I've really liked, and would like to know more.
pavement, yes pavement. everyone loves pavement. I've heard a little off of crooked rain, but nothing too exciting... what am I missing?
