This made me laugh until tears ran dry.

Yup, Antwerp.
Otherwise it would be
Pierre.

Also home of the Berkley Pit, if I'm not mistaken. I think that alone qualifies Butte as pretty wierd. As does the enormous statue atop a mountain.

In terms of a larger location, the city of Sudbury in Ontario, Canada may be the weirdest place I've ever been. A nickel mining area featuring the world's largest smokestack. Huge piles of "slag" dominate the landscape. Slag is the waste of nickel mining. You enter the city after traveling through miles of Canadian wilderness, only to be greated by an ominous, hulking smokestack and an altered, polluted landscape. The residents of this city appeared to be drones and faceless zombies with no purpose but to survive amongst the slag.

The area is being renovated as part of the Olympic regeneration shebang, I believe, so it has probably changed completely.
It
is now changing, but it still has a bit Max Max about it at the moment. I think we're still negociating with the last few businesses on the site.

So this weekend a couple of friends and I drove up to NYC from Atlanta to see Anthony Braxton play. Ont he way back home a couple of days ago we saw the ruins of a motel back off the highway and decided to stop and do some exploring.
