Damn dude.

And Steve V., I am giving you the benefit of the doubt that you have since then discovered silly fun fast bands with a little(lot) more integrity than Blank 187. I sincerely hope they were a gateway to good punk, much like huffing gas might lead to smoking decent herb.

If not, go get some Descendents right now mothafucka.

PiL ain't my thing.

Blink 182 = Fisher Price. My first "punk rock" band.

I have since moved onto gooder bands...like Fall Out Boy and Set Your Goals.

I kid.

My love for bands like the Descendents runs like blood. One of my favorite bands of all time. Despite their newer shit being fairly weak with low waffles, still a great band. ALL was kind of alright I guess as well. There an infinite amount of bands who did the Blink thing better and with more conviction and with less emphasis on trying to be funny, but that doesn't diminish the fact that they played a big dumb part in a little dumb piece of my life. Kind of how Black Flag did for a little bit. Then there's bands like F.Y.P who did the lo-fi pop punk thing like a bunch of sociopaths and continue to do it (albeit with more patience and restraint) in Toys That Kill. Then there's the Queers, Screeching Weasel, Furious George and all the bands on Recess Records...yeah. Whatever. I used to be really into that shit and I'd be a shiteating liar to deny that.

Anyone who says they didn't mow down a few bullshit silly commercial bands before finding a genre or a group that they could respect and fall in love with is a FUCKING LYING SACK OF SHIT. I loved Blink 182 and MXPX and Green Day when I was in 6th grade because it was good music to me at the time. It took an older punker kid in high school kicking my ass and then befriending me to get me into much better punk and hardcore bands. How I found out about the Flag, Bad Brains, Minor Threat, DK, MDC, AoF, all that shit. And that music occupied a bigger part of my young life and some of it is still cool to me today. Just like Blink 182 is occasionally fun to listen to. Why not? If it gets you off, it gets you off. If it gives you a bonedog, you can't deny it.

First cassette I ever bought with my own money was Urban Chipmunk, and the first vinyl I ever bought was a Men at Work 45. Not sure which single -- It's a Mistake, maybe? The B side was 'Til the Money Runs Out.

REM at age 7. I am pretty young.

Kind of funny how I can't listen to them at all now.

Crowded House. I saw them in a lovely old theatre on my tenth birthday. Prior to the show we ate dinner at an all-you-can-eat buffet.

It was a magical evening.

Roxette - Joyride - I was 8
Guns N' Roses - Use Your Illussion II - Same age
an Argentinian Soundtrack made for this manga http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Tsubasa - I really loved that soundtrack and manga - was like 8 years old.

Then when I was 11 I bought STP's tiny music and some Alanis Morrisette album. Everthing went on track when I got my first AC/DC album and went to see them live at the same year. I was 12
