It was between PiL and Wire and I chose Wire. It's too bad that most of the wire votes here appear to be "among the choices" votes. I, too, admit that I forgot about the quality of Wire until I just recently heard A Bell is a Cup...Until it is Struck, and not to mention Send, which was a pretty good return to form (you can't even really call it that, it's like their take on Killing Joke or something). And obviously the first three records are of the utmost quality. Though so are those PiL records. It was a tough call.

The Fall? Not good...really.

Have any of you ever heard Colin Newman's A-Z, there's some really good pop on there.

In everyone's opinion, more like. Even the songs that are good from Songs of the Free are less-than-awesomely recorded.

But seriously.

Entertainment?

What a fucking monster of a record.

Solid Gold is better. Even without the Another Day, Another Dollar EP appended.
I disagree. Solid Gold is excellent, yes, an album for the ages, and even more musically adventurous in places ("He'd Send The Army") but Entertainment! has a fucking white-hot diamond-hard tempered edge to it, in performance, sound, and songwriting.

Entertainment! makes me want to break everything.

Everything.

Both Wire and Go4 put out two amazing records followed by years of absolute shit.

The Pop Group and This Heat packed it in before they had a chance at putting out shit records.

Let's think about Joy Division objectively, tuning out the JD overkill from the past few years that makes it easy to think they're crap by default: they put out two great records followed by one meandering record as New Order, followed by a string of pop hits. They are also, however, responsible for spawning The Cure, Hot Topic stores, and mall gothdom.

PiL peaked with Metal Box.

There's only one clear choice-uh. The band-uh that recorded a record 24 Peel Sessions-uh. It's The Fall-uh: the wonderful and frightening world of Mark E Smith-uh.

They didn't spawn the Cure, they formed in the same year. They also didn't have anything to do with Hot Topic, or Mall Goth culture.

no, the fall is beautiful ugly, and it would be stupid to say otherwise..

but wire is really..
well i like wire a lot..

i admire the fall a lot..
but i don't listen to them, and my girlfriend thinks they're tedious..

but she likes the wire..

so i went wire..
anything to get them panties off..

so you see, it's wire.

anyway, you didn't think about delta5..

you didn't mention a single girl group post punk..

this is a mistake.
