I just read the EULA for OS X Leopard. Galanter, where does it say it's illegal and punishable by law to install OS X on non Apple hardware? The only thing I see is this, which is a pile of unenforceable shit:

12. Controlling Law and Severability. This License will be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, as applied to agreements
entered into and to be performed entirely within California between California residents. This License shall not be governed by the United Nations Convention on Contracts
for the International Sale of Goods, the application of which is expressly excluded. If for any reasthereof, to be unenforceable, the remainder of this License shall continue in full force and effect.

Breaking the EULA is NOT stealing. Prove to us that it is and I, for one, will shut up and forget about your big, thick skull forever.

I think the argument is that the definition of piracy includes any kind of 'unauthorised use' and that piracy is always, always, always theft even when you haven't deprived anyone of anything tangible. I really wouldn't be surprised if this is true in a legal fashion, even though it is clearly bullshit under any reasonable definitions of the word.

Much as I disagree, I understand Galanter's points. What baffles me, is why he's chosen to moralise over something causing no real-world harm. I don't get why he's chosing to be so unpleasant to otherwise friendly people. I don't know, perhaps he wants to save our souls or something.
Why defend cunts?

because ignorance is bliss, and knowledge should not be obtained if it's at the "expense" of a corporation.

A hobbyist is seeking knowledge, they are learning something by installing OS X on a PC. To criminalize this person is ridiculous. However, to criminalize this person once he begins to make a profit on what he learned isn't. I wouldn't feel bad if I pirated photoshop in order to learn on it, in fact I did that as a kid. I'm not a graphics artist but my PC I had when I was in high school was worth less than the pretty packaging photoshop came in, so obviously I'm not going to be able to afford it. I never made any money from it, and now I use GIMP for doing things. I learned a great deal though through "illegal" proceedings as a minor. Even kids who get into filesharing end up learning more about networks than the idiots who paid 20K a year at ITT tech do. Eventually these people grow up, get jobs, or do whatever and maybe make legitimate money as a graphic artist or engineer or whatever. The fact of the matter is, most of these people aren't able to afford $500 bucks for photoshop. Currently I couldn't afford 80$ for 10.5 on my macbook, but I don't really need it either.

Getting mad at somebody for exploring something is stupid. Getting mad as somebody exploiting what they found isn't.
