i just did a tour with a band whose backline is two 8x10s, two 4x10s, two 4x12s, two 15s, bunch of heavy power amps, etc....i lost 10 lbs in two weeks.

first night of tour- 5th floor loft with no elevator. it all seemed easy after that.

If I know the band, I help them load in and out. Least I can do, especially since they're usually playing to me and the same 5 drunk, bearded dudes every time.

And it's not as if the bands I typically see are loading in a couple of glockenspiels and a bongo.

i help load in if i know the band.

i offer to help load out if i liked the band.

i can't tell you how happy it would make me if the majority of the bands that you went to see consisted of three dudes - two on glockenspiels, one on bongos. like, when you went home, you cranked all that weedeatin' southern lord shit, but damn.... you're going out! it's time to step away from all of that! it's time for some glocks and a bong....

...by which i'm shorthanding the phraseology of two glockenspiels and a bongo...

that would make the fuck out of my day.

And that, my friends, is the reason my own band is a trio with gear that fits inside a VW Jetta wagon.

My 2x12 cab, head and guitar can all fit in my trunk. I live upstairs, but as I am the only person in my band, which doesn't play out or have a rehearsal space, it's not an issue.

I hauled gear. The closest I got to playing in a touring band was when we went to a good philly bar and the drummer didn't show. The other guys turned to me and asked if I had been practicing. I said no they weren't suprised.

I once played in a rockabilly band where I only played a snare w/ two brushes. If people offered to help I would just hand them a brush because, shit, carrying a snare and one brush is fucking torture enough.

Bingo.

The dance floor turned into some sort of "Latin" fest after the bands finished, but in saying that, it was the easiest load I have ever done there. I didn't have to put with that many drunken partiers as we loaded out.
