The Guardian is also wrong. But the person who wrote that for the Guardian doesn't have Mandroid's excuse that she hasn't seen Juno. This person presumably has seen all three movies she's talking about (Waitress, Knocked Up, and Juno), and still can say:

I haven't seen Waitress, so I don't know, but Knocked up and Juno both present situations where women do consider abortion as a feasible possibility and dismiss it. So I don't know what she's talking about.

The whole point of Knocked Up and Juno is that they are stories of pregnant women and the people around them. Sure, Juno could have aborted, and Miss Knockedup could have as well. And Ocean's 11 could have decided not to rob the casino. And Ferris Bueller could have gone to school. But I don't want to go see a movie that's 10 minutes long just to satisfy Hadley Freeman's idea of political correctness.

To sort of repeat, or overlap, what DrAwkward has said in this thread - I'm pro-choice. That doesn't just mean I support a woman's right to have an abortion. It means I support a woman's right to choose what to do when she's pregnant. And if that woman is a fictional woman, then I support a writer's right to choose what that woman does when she's pregnant.

I haven't seen this movie, but from what I've gleaned from friends, Juno is pretty much a feel-good, everyone finds themselves and their place in the world through a birth of a new life WEEEEE! It's a baby-type movie. Is my impression wrong?

Also, I forgot to mention reason #2 that I will never see this movie: Diablo Cody.

Oh, and to echo LVP--that Guardian article is ridiculous and flat-out inaccurate.

all this talk about how diablo cody is a this that and the other further exemplifies why i rarely, if ever, read or listen to interviews with or anything written by an "artist." that includes artist statements written by painters, etc. they all sound like complete turds. i prefer to let the art alone influence my decision.

while i do commit some offenses against this general rule i do try to adhere to it as much as possible.

This is one movie I'd never want to see. Never mind the pregnancy shit. I've seen clips, the acting sucks, and the soundtrack is worse.

This is the shittiest movie I've seen that contains repeated references to the Melvins and The Stooges in it. Fuck this film.

i thought the acting was great with, surprisingly, the exception of ellen page -- why she has the best acting nomination i nunno (oh wait because the oscars are crap, that's right). tomboy cried! hand that girl an award! i also don't understand why this movie got the best film nomination (maybe making up for all the past quirky comedies that got the shaft? i mean if this was a drama, so was rushmore which was 9,000x better). a little overkill on some of the lingo but otherwise i enjoyed and thought a lot of the uncomfortable things were appropriate (jason bateman... such a loser... very good). had to consciously ignore what the screenwriter was all about to admit liking it though. diablo cody, you are crap, but maybe i think this because you are indie poseur who made it and i am a little envious. maybe.
