Not my cup of tea at all but world famous:
Daft Punk (Paris)
C'mon, man, you
can't deny the unfuckwithable vocoder break in "Harder Better Faster Stronger."
Probably
sampled off
someone else.
I did like the first Daft Punk album though (which wasn't so sample heavy).

I see Cheveu have already been mentioned. My band played with them a few months ago when they were on their US tour... Pretty good!
In couple of weeks, we're playing with another French band called the Feeling of Love. Good garagey Frenchie pummel... see

The bed tracks came from "Cola Bottle Baby," but not the vocoder.

I'll see your Magma and raise you an Offering, Weidorje, Zao etc. Eskaton were also pretty good. The Heldon/Richard Pinhas axis, which is more loosely related is also fabulous. And Univers Zero, although they're Belgian.
True story, the first time I saw Magma, Steve Davis sat directly behind me.

I know little about them except they are "friends" on SWORDS' myspace and have two basses and drums.

Never heard it. Care to Sendspace it? Pretty pretty please?
Ahh, I would, but my iPod won't dock properly or something..it won't let me put songs on it or take them off.
Pretty safe bet for a blind buy, though.
