Yes, Chris. That's the point. Her hard drug abuse is most likely the reason for this. Everything else she did that was terrible was just a pile on.

Now, she could totally redeem herself and show the world that she learned form her terrible mistakes, renounce hard drug abuse and quite smoking altogether... well, now it's her moment to shine. Will she take the opportunity to do so? I know I'm watching, hoping she does.

It's probably fairly difficult to hit rock bottom with shit-tons of money in the bank, and I'm pretty sure her label hates all the free press and the fact that she's being turned into the next tragic music genius that left too soon. That probably doesn't help record sales one bit. I haven't heard anything about them kicking her off her label until she gets clean, I'm sure they're getting around to it though. I don't know much about her parents, I only heard of this Ms. Winehouse recently from the PRF, but I remember reading somewhere that she's on the outs with her parents. As someone on the out's with their parents', I can say that this is the shitty kind of thing my parents would do to get my attention, that is, if I sold a million records.

In spite of suffering thoughtless self abuse, bad attitude, racist blather (figure that?) etc., she deserves at least a little compassion for being lost. She's important to some people and they will be (are being) hurt as well. Tragedy? Yep. Jaco was also an asshole and he too did it to himself, yet we still have compassion, sadness and loss.

At least we can have some hope here because if nothing else she certainly has pipes and could turn around and make some great music if she ever grows up. She may not be my favorite now but I'm pullin for her. She certainly has a spark and I hope she catches fire. Is she a talent like Jaco? Won't ever know if she's dead.

Some do get past the drugs and become the greats. Especially after a medical awakening. George Carlin comes to mind.

OK, to put this in perspective: she has a song about how she could go to rehab, but doesn't want to. Read that again. She could go to rehab, but doesn't want to. Now, think about all the wait lists for cheap clinics, people who want and need the help, if they can even afford it.

Compared to all the meth addicts and crackheads in my town with no one to turn to, and who would love to be in her position, I have no sympathy for po' Amy. I can't see why I should. Can anyone explain?

Anyway, the point is, she can either learn from her mistakes or continue to make them. Personally, I don't give a shit. I wish the media would just stay out of it so I don't have to come across it. Fucking vultures. On the other hand, you have a person who either can't or doesn't want to pull themselves together. It's her decision to ruin herself, no matter what she believes. Michael Jackson? I don't know anyone who felt compassion, sadness or loss for that guy. He's permanently psychologically fucked up. I don't feel remorse for him at all. He's made his own decisions, however misguided he is. He's perceived things the way he's wanted and lived his life accordingly. Maybe that's a cold way of thinking of it. Not really. That's why I had to edit. I realized Michael Jackson goes by "Jacko," not "Jaco." But I still stand by what I said there.

It's sad that she has emphysema. It's also sad that I can't register any kind of sympathy for her.

She can sing well, and obviously she has some serious problems.

But, at a certain point, when you see someone chasing death as hard as they can, and refusing to stop - which I think is what's happening here - then any sympathy you may have will dwindle significantly.
