This was exactly as tragic as I had expected it to be.

She's with a loving family now, that's all that matters.

It's good that she won't be having any contact with her mother, but her mother's negligence will be with her for the rest of her life.

So calling for her to be reprimanded or otherwise castigated serves no purpose in this case other than making you ,the observer feel better about it.

how guilty does one have to be before castigation serves a purpose? you can and should punish parents who do irreparable harm to their kids. it's how we as a civilization protect our kids.
