Augustus Pablo "King Tubby Meets the Rockers Uptown" (my all-time favorite drum-fill-starting song)
Elvis Costello "Lipstick Vogue"
ZZ Top "Gimme All Your Lovin'"
Silkworm "Into the Woods" and "There Is a Party in Warsaw Tonight"
Eric B and Rakim "Paid In Full" (I think--it's been awhile)
Bad Company "Can't Get Enough of Your Love"
Naked Raygun "Libido"
Black Uhuru "Sponji Reggae"
Rolling Stones "Get Off of My Cloud"
Massive Attack "Teardrop"
Mikey Dread "Jah Jah Love"
Steve Miller "Take the Money And Run" (Maybe not a great song, but great and much-sampled opening)

mattw wrote:'Moby Dick' maybe?
I think that's more of an actual beat.
Rolling Stones "Get Off of My Cloud"
Same deal, I think. Or does it actually start with a fill...

Oh yeah, my mistake. For some reason, I was thinking of a "beat" as just a one-measure, "1-2-3-4" sort of thing, and that anything more would qualify. So strike ZZ Top, Stones (I don't think Watts does a fill before starting), Naked Raygun, and Silkworm (actually, "In the Woods" could go either way), Eric B, and Massive Attack from my list.
But add "Young Americans" by David Bowie, "Worries in the Dance" by Frankie Paul and "Send Us Home to Zion" by the Abyssinians.
This is a fun thread...

shit...
TWISTER SISTER...
We're Not Gonna Take It
RITES OF SPRING...
Remainder
Deeper Than Inside
VOIVOD : probably the single best drum-intro *album* of all time comes from them, their debut album, War and Pain...
Warriors of Ice
Iron Gang
Blower
Live For Violence
Black City
yes, that's right, 5 of the 9 songs on their first album start with stand-alone drum fills, and these are *classic* drum fill intros.
RODAN...
Shiner
TRANS AM...
does Extreme Measures count? i mean, it's a drum fill, so what if the bass player happens to be filling too, right?
HAYMARKET RIOT...
technically, Technicolor Bombs starts with TWO different unrelated drum fills. so that's cool. ironically, neither of them is part of the actual song, but are rather just a pre-intro and then an intro, if that makes any sense. lol.
MELVINS...
It's Shoved
Green Honey
Teet
and of course the Undisputable Be All End All Ultimate Winner of Eternity...
MELVINS : Skweetis
although Voivod's Warriors Of Ice gets my vote for a close second.
