Michael Dahlquist on Silkworm's "Insomnia" (from It'll Be Cool)
John Stanier from Battles

Both of these guys sound like incredibly hard hitters. I know MD is; haven't seen Battles live. But the impacts of their drum hits carry emotional weight. Quite beautiful.

Actually, probably every dude who played drums for James Brown back in the day. Clyde Stubblefield, plus some other cats whose names I can't remember.

Drummer who irritates the shit out of me: the guy from Phish. Dude sounds like he has a Ph.D. in drumming and he wants you to know about it.

Hell yes, also watching him play 'Dragoon' (particularly the intro) live was near Spinal Tap-like genius!

Awesome! Sadly, when I saw them, he'd left already, so I missed out on that experience.

He was also up to his usual standard of excellence on Walt Mink's El Producto, but I didn't much like the tone of the singer's voice.

I couldn't agree more. Frantz is an amazing drummer. I played with him in a band before he was in C-Clamp and he was the best thing about that band. If anyone is in need of a drummer this man needs a job.

Simone Pace of Blonde Redhead is an incredible drummer (especially live),
their new album, Misery is a Butterfly is proof.

Mario Rubacalba, who drummed for Clikitat Ikatowi, Rocket From the Crypt, Hot Snakes, Heavy Vegetable or Thingy for a short while (i can't remember which) and most currently, Earthless - fantastic drummer

Tim Soete of the Fucking Champs - no comment necessary

Josh Freese of A Perfect Circle (even though i don't care for their music) is an amazing studio drummer.

And i can't beleve i'm going to agree with Walter here, but Jimmy Chamberlin is a good drummer - and that new Jimmy Chamberlin Complex cd is pretty good
