FWIW, Pt. 1
FWIW, Pt. 2
By the way, this thread needs more domestic violence-related humor.

Looks like a "return to form." I could go for a return to form.

One in-joke I share with a few people is "having a talk about REM" as a euphemism for beating one's spouse.

i voted New Adventures. other albums before it are better, but NAIHF is the last great REM album. The ones after it have their moments, but Around the Sun (except for Electron Blue) blows.
fellow REM fans: What's up with So Fast, So Numb? I've always thought of this song as a good-not-great song at the back of a great album but nothing amazing. It's become a staple of their live sets and I know many people who call it one of thier favorite REM songs ever. I'm a little befuddled by the high praise this tune gets. Y'alls like it?

General audience disagrees with you.
We all used to beat our wifes.
Perhaps we could change this question to "what was the best REM album to beat your wife to?"
or perhaps "what was the best REM album owned by your wife to beat off to?"
I've never been into REM. I couldn't ever listen to them with any love. I remember quite enjoying Monster enough to stop beating my girlfriend for a few days, but it wore off fairly quickly.

I really like UP. The Apologist is a great song. I think it was a good kinda album to make after losing Bill Berry. Also like the Beach Boys style one that was a single from that album.

REM rivals The Who and The Pixies for the band most consistently overrated by folks with otherwise decent taste.
The only REM song I've ever vaguely enjoyed is "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?"--not bad when blaring over the speakers at the gym, but it might be the testosterone talking.
agreed. but not even What's the frequency kenneth. that song was an automatic channel changer for me.
and,

I second that.
