Why do you seek validation from the guys? Safety in numbers, typical Pixies fan.
There, that's an example of the Straw Man Fallacy. However, you are right to warn me of the dangers of polarising an argument out of personal bitterness, thank you the Classical.
Pixies fans in the UK as I remember them were also big on CUD, Kingmaker, Eat, Ned's Atomic Dustbin and The Wonder Stuff, so presumably these are all fantastic bands as well?
That the hype machine that perpetually fuels this band has existed for so long that it now has nostalgia value for many is virtually 'Star Wars' both in conception and scale.

I've never heard of CUD, Kingmaker, or Eat, but I despised Ned's Atomic Dustbin and The Wonder Stuff. I mean, absolutely despised them.

I'm confused. I like the Pixies. I am from the UK. Do I also now like Cud, Kingmaker et al? How come no-one told me? Can I get help for this?

First of all liking the Pixies meant I was smug about the number of friends I had or something, and now I like fucking Ned's Atomic Dustbin?? Did I sign something without realising it?

Enough with the sweeping generalisations already! Otherwise we'll need a really complex Venn diagram to sort it out!

The Pixies were neither genre-defining, earth-shattering or life-changing. They were just a really good noisy pop band with a fine guitarist and a better-than-average lunatic in front. The bass player also doesn't get her fair share of the credit for what made them worthwhile (hey, "Gigantic" is the best song on Surfer Rosa), and the drummer was really, really good. Oh, and the first and second albums are fun to listen to. They're really overrated, but they're not crap. At least not from this corner.

within the space of "come on pilgrim," "surfer rosa," "doolittle," "bossanova," and "trompe le monde" there are maybe, maybe 12 great songs. that's about the length of one album. it's a great album but the other 3 albums that would be left over? total, forgettable (you hope) shit.

"silver" and "crackity jones" are crap and you know they're crap. and you know "allison" ain't all that great, either. and you also know that if anyone is guilty of rewriting their own songs it's this band.

i also hope you bothered to track down the original versions of the songs they covered. no favors done anywhere to anyone with these actions.

over rated. the reunion is a scam. the new songs will most definitely suck. also, the odds and ends i've seen of them live have been very boring. even when they were "on."

like i said, that one album would be great. the other three would be shit.

i heard once that someone around here called them "a second rate college rock band."

that guy was right.
buy my guitar. now with pictures!

Why all this hatin' on Surfer Rosa? It was the first Pixies record I got, and I still think it's great - even better than Doolittle as a whole (which is an opinion, after all). I'm not saying people are wrong for disliking it, but where are the people who love this record? The stuff from Come On, Pilgrim is uniformly better on SR, and I fucking love "Bone Machine," "Broken Face," shit, the whole damn thing. One of my desert island records. Even despite the Fight Club association.
What are the queers doing to the soil?

The breeders however...

Fear not my brother - theres a new Breeders album in the works. Despite being dropped from their last label, Kim Deal is demoing new songs.

I dont know; I listened to the Pixies the other day for the first time in a long time, and its just not that good. My time is so valuable! I could be listening to something else much better in its place! I dont know how many years left I have on this Earth!

The Breeders are simply awesome though, and I look forward to their next record.
