I'm positive that I've made at least one mix tape that used tracks by both.

I am pretty sure my father doesn't.

But he is not a hipster.

I'm pretty sure the only groups my dad even likes are the Kinks, Creedence and The Band.

My mom likes, or used to like, James Taylor and Carly Simon, and thought that Leonard Cohen was the guy who wrote "MacArthur Park" when I said I liked Leonard Cohen, asking me how could I like that "MacArthur Park" song. That took a little explaining...

Anyway, I'm glad I've found more than that kind of music out there...though I love the Kinks, Creedence and The Band.

That's sort of like my dad. I think he likes James Brown, but he sure as shit hates stevie wonder.

Actually, the only musician he has time for is usually Captain Beefheart.

SecondEdition wrote:"Rated X," while pretty different, is better because it is even more intense than the Contortions.

That's a tough one.

Edit: the above link is the song "Rated X," not the entire album.

I doubt my parents had ever heard of Captain Beefheart before I bought Trout Mask Replica.
