I like the Stones for what they did, when they were still relevant and made quality music. I don't think 3 decades of crap automatically cancels out 1 decade of great tunes. In my mind, the guy who cures cancer gets a lifetime pass where he can now do useless experiments on mice. One "Gimmie Shelter" more than makes up for 10 "Undercover of the Nights". That's just how I see it, just my opinion - of course, feel free to disagree.

Crap.

They've got some oddly satisfying songs from the early days. But even blind squirrels find nuts sometimes. They've got nearly 50 years worth of shit, so something's bound to be good.

Much of their sound leaves me puzzled, perhaps as Tim said it's poorly produced, but how much can you polish a turd? The guitar sounds like everything I always wanted mine not to sound like. Auralcrap.

Pretentious students get in touch with their black, American roots. Bullcrap.

[You mean you guys don't like the "Sweet Neocon" song or whatever it's called, at least in principle?]

All you really need is Beggar's Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, and Exile, but you really, really need those four records. Don't let the Rolling Stones that became a vehicle for rockstar-ism keep you from hearing the exhilaration of a band that finally got to the treasure chest they were digging for, opened it, and improved upon what was in it. On those four records, they were not making artifice, they were making art.

A Rolling Stones C/NC is almost even?!!

I don't know you people anymore. We should go into counseling.

I honestly don't know what to say. The Rolling Stones recorded some of the most listenable, enjoyable, and cocky rock'n'roll ever made. How in the name of ever-loving fuckballs can "Monkey Man" or "Gimmie Shelter" leave one cold?

I'm staggered.

they are NOT CRAP.

yeah they've sucked now for a lot longer than they were any good but c'mon 'let it bleed' anyone? that's a damn good album. i have no difficulty pretending they stopped existing after 'exile...'. i do that with a lot of bands anyway.

it's not exactly even though is it?
there's like ten points between CRAP and NOT CRAP usually.

Thank you! More eloquently stated than I could have put it, but almost my exact thoughts.
