I've only recently started listening to this man's work.
At present, I only have Rain on Lens and Doctor Came at Dawn, both of which are excellent.
I suspect I will enjoy pretty much all his work.
Not Crap.

52Both great albums, but actually two of my "lesser favourites" from his output.
I know Mr Food will back me up when I say that "A River Ain't Too Much To Love" is almost too much too love because it is too good. I think this is the most perfect record he's made.
Dindon would disagree with me though, and probably back "Dongs of Sevotion" I think.
Red Apple Falls, Knock Knock, Supper - these are all brilliant also.

I concur with this as well...There was seriously like an 11 month period after this came out where I listened to it at least once a day and sometimes just put it on repeat in the coffee shop I worked at...It really is perfect.
Definitely my most listened to album of the last 10 years.

55Smog is coming, of all places, to Beaumont, TX (mine and Red Square's town) on February 15th. I absolutely cannot wait. January has been a shitty, terrible month, so finding out that Callahan is coming through was some of the best possible news I could've heard at the moment. Yes!

57I've always enjoyed Smog, but it wasn't until seeing him live that I went officially shitballs crazy for him. What an incredible performer. There are few not-crapper than Bill Callahan.
Thanks for posting the tour notice, llllllllllllllllllllllll. I have a friend near Memphis in the middle of a major Smog phase who has yet to see him live, and this should make his year. Fuck yeah.

58Saw him on Friday. Amazing.
Played with a guitar player and a drummer, very full, beautiful sound. The electric guitarist played a solo set beforehand, but to be honest, I was catching up with about 4 or 5 very good friends i hadn't seen in a while, so I didn't pay much attention to his set. Sounded cool, though.
Anyone who could make this tour, should. I saw him at a tiny venue with a low turnout, and while I hope the rest of his shows are well attended enough to make his tour a success, I have to admit that I never would have thought that I would've been able to see the guy so close. Dude really knows his stuff.
The band arrangements were really good. I've noticed that when a lot of folkier guys play with bands, the rest of the band sometimes kinda seems like an ornament to whatever the guy up front is doing, but these guys did a really great job of utilizing space. The drummer was phenomenal, albeit not in necessarily a technical way. On a few songs he played organ with his left hand while he was beating the drums with his feet and hands. Very cool.
Had a couple of chances to talk to the guy, but I didn't. Didn't know what I woulda said to him, and wasn't about to go all fan boy.
Go see this man play guitar.

59If anyone has been trying to find the out-of-print record A River Ain't Too Much to Love on vinyl, it appears that someone on Ebay must have found a box full of them.
I ordered and received this record recently. Sealed. Buy It Now for $21 or something like that. I had been looking for it for several months.
Great record.
Carry on.
