Most kids grow into normal functioning adults, just not always in the image of their parents. So long as you aren't traumatising your kids too badly they'll likely be ok.
If you were thinking about being born, what would you look for in a parent? I don't mean ideal, just baseline.

52I don't like being particularly encouraging, because fuck yr feelings of inadequacy, but you seem to provide evidence contrary of this. That you are in any way trying to promote good habits to your son when he's in your care is pretty much what an A+ parent does. These wank badgers love dem youtubes and screens like they were made out of a hill of rock candy. Every day past 5yo is a constant forge to get them to engage with wholesome activities and eat their vegetables while they berate you as an asshole who is ruining their lives because they rather be watching somebody unbox toys or livestream Minecraft while screaming inane absurdities at their impressionable minds. If it wasn't at his father's house, it would be at friends houses. So give yourself a break, but I don't think you should give up, because your attempts to intervene is all they've got in this world gone mad.Hairy Caul wrote: Tue Jan 25, 2022 5:45 pm
In the meantime I have come to the unfortunate conclusion that, in my opinion, I am not a very good parent.

And all of the other second most (in a few cases first most) important parents.

55Things have seemed to be on a slow but upward trajectory since we moved out into the country about a year and a half ago, but the last few weeks have been rough, and yesterday in particular was very hard. Our older son was destructive and violent in a way I feel like I haven't seen in probably a year, and we are struggling.
It's weird, because in that year, he has grown, and gotten a lot stronger, and as I was trying to keep him from hurting his mom and little brother, I realized "he can actually hurt me now" (not to mention his mom and little brother.)
Anyway, shitty day, and today doesn't seem like it's gonna be any better, but we're still trying...

57Definitely some of my proudest moments as a Dad have been related to the musical talents and preferences of my daughters.

59My youngest is headed off to college this week. My wife is going through some shit about it. I have no idea why - his older brother is going into his 3rd year of college, and we see him plenty. He spent all summer living with us and mooching off us. (just kidding). And the youngest is going a big state school 45 minute away. I am just psyched I won't have to clean up after him, and I hope he can get laid....
And dude with the kids: relax - they all just stare at screens all day. Nobody reads books. Blows my mind, but I ain't them. With any luck he will have some friends so they can hang out together and stare at their screens in the same room. Its just what they do. No big deal.
Only a shitty parent thinks that they are a great parent. Normal people have doubts and try to better all the time.

60Holy shit, that is the dream right there. Mine is only two, so take this with a grain of salt, but she's discovered Cocomelon and I fear it is all downhill from here.
