I just realized that I don’t think I’ve ever had a proper forum in which to share the following anecdote. The following conversation occurred circa 1984 between young me (ME) and my older, proto-hesher cousin (HC):
HC: “I’m not listening to Billy Idol any more.”
ME: “Why not?”
HC: “Because he just came out as gay.”
ME: “When?”
HC: “Have you heard his new song, I Supply the Face?”
ME: “But what does that even mean, ‘I supply the face’?”
HC: “You know, ‘face’ … head???”
