This past summer there was an Instagram account punkstoo here in Finland. Hundreds, maybe thousands of women told their experiences about rape, grooming, harassment and such in the Finnish punk scene. A lot of them were kids when these things happened. Just young girls, looking for their place in the world, being vulnerable and unsure. Not a lot of came out of it, because misogyny and victim blaming is so deeply rooted in this our society.
I can't believe that people here still have this misogynist attitude. This board had at least one rapist and one convicted pedophile as members.

I'm not sure how we're supposed to vote .. are we debating if groupies themselves are crap/not crap, or if the system that prepetuates the groupie experience is crap/not crap?

None of my bands were ever successful enough that I have any first hand experience with groupies, but I had a friend named Matt who had an interest in heavy metal that was partly sincere and partly ironic. In the '80s, Ratt were playing in Lansing, and while peddling his bike home from work he saw the band's tour bus parked behind the Lansing Civic Center. Just for the hell of it, Matt knocked on the door of the bus. They asked who he was, he said he was a fan, and they invited him in and they gave him beers and shared road stories. Matt noticed there were three young women on the bus who looked underaged and a little worse for wear. One of the Ratt dudes noticed that Matt was looking at the women, and the guy ordered one of them to give Matt a blowjob. Matt immediately insisted that wasn't necessary, but the Ratt dude was adamant, and the girl was clearly prepared to do it, though not with much enthusiasm. Matt decided this was way too fucked up for him, he begged off, and didn't knock on the door of a band bus ever again. If a women is old enough and conscious enough of her agency that she wants to have one night stands with rock stars, then I suppose that's her business and as long as she plays safe, more power to her. But that clearly was not what what was happening on that bus, and that is awful to a degree far worse than "crap."
