This Tim Henson solo piece is IMHO the coolest, most innovative guitar playing I've heard in ages. It's also really fucking pretty music. Have at it haters:

This kid is massively talented. Has a command over the guitar I didn't even dream of ever having. The guitar tone SUCKS ASS and the playing is way too showy form my tastes. I can't hate on it though. BUT, that last section is rad AF and definitely something I've never heard before. The whole first section is just over the top classical music inspired guitar playing to me. Just a slightly different flavor than I've seen the other hundreds of times.

Iommi has probably been the greatest force for good. As great as Hendrix and Page were, they inspired John Mayer and The Black Crowes.

I learned the first 8 bars of that tune. I can sort of play it correctly....at half speed.

Getting back to youtube personalities, what's everyone's take on Warren Huart? Considerably more irritating than Beato IMO, and watching some of his 'how to' vids, I was like "uuuuhhhh I'm not sure you really know what you're doing there mister...", which, like or dislike Beato, he clearly knows what he's talking about.

Maybe you jut don't like jazz? I think JD and Domi make wonderful music, though their new album is not as interesting to me than other stuff I've heard (probably due to the anderson.paak production).

On topic of annoying youtube music guys, how about that oh so precious Gregory Scott of The House Of Kush? I'm sure he's a good guy and the information he shares is useful, but holy fuck is his voice and presentation an acquired taste.

Oh I definitely do, but not so much fusion stuff past the mid '70s or so. To me they sound like a Porcaro brothers jam session from 1987, never mind that they dress like anime characters. That said, I have heard JD Beck do some cool stuff in more of a J Dilla direction.

There was this great series on Youtube I caught by this extremely academic piano nerd called Nahre Sol where she would do all these deep dives into various musical idioms, investigating the characteristics of the style and so forth. And then at the end she would attempt to incorporate what she'd learned into an original composition. And the punchline was that all the original compositions would all sound exactly the same: some dense, atonal modernist nightmare that resembled two cats fighting on a keyboard, with not a trace of the original style.

I think it was serious but it was still a good joke.

For this sort of thing, I'm partial to this weird English chap who runs what looks like a low budget channel. I don't know who Wings of Pegasus are, but to his credit I have not heard a note of his band. Also Glenn Campbell is my idea of a good stunt guitarist.


As far as the crappy you-tubisms (reaction videos, rants, hideous thumbnails), I say hate the game not the player. People will click on the stupidest and most familiar first.
