Were Blake babies from Boston?
That band was meh, but the guitarist had this other band called Vello Deluxe that was pretty cool
Crazy Alice! Almost fogot bout them. They released a not too bad Lp.

The drummer Shawn passed away in 2013. A sweet soul and insanely talented guy. His sisters Kate and Meaghan were in bands as well, and early one, SK-70 also had a record on the same label (Sonic Bubblegum) as Crazy Alice. Those three siblings were just unbelievably talented and they made it seem effortless.

Christ I miss Neptune and Ho-Ag. Two bands that were always a treat to run into on tour and became two of my favorite bands ever, period. Miss all those folks a ton.

Hydra Head/Tortuga was referenced earlier in passing, but there were a few in there that were dynamite. ISIS, Cave In, obviously.
- 5ive were dizzying, sorta improv heavy. When they were good, they were really good.
Barbaro included Andrew Schneider (who later went on to record a bunch of music) and put out one of my most favorite 7"s - "Feeding/Two Boozlers ..." which doesn't seem to be online anywhere.
Old Man Gloom were never really Boston, except that most members lived there. Varied, but awesome when they are awesome (and a b-l-a-s-t live).
And - c'mon y'all - Converge. Been around forever, sure, but they have made some great, great music.
I was also a big fan of Tides, who never really took off. Great instrumental post-metal.

I don't know if they're still around, but Black Helicopter were (or are) rad.

yes, Blake babies was Juliana Hatfield's first band. We played with them once at TTs. No idea who booked that show. I think they got us confused with Letters to Cleo.
and Black Helicopter is still around.
In related news, here's another band I forgot:
Helicopter Helicopter - they were on lunch records, founded by Orbit's drummer.

My Emerson college friend Anthony Deluca played drums in Blake Babies right at the end. He was also in Ambulance Driver and the Swirlies and apparently Unsane at some point after college.
