I haven't paid attention to them in years but Oh My Gawd!!! and In A Priest Driven Ambulance were seminal LPs for me, still listen to them often. She Don't Use Jelly was crap but that same album has Turn It On, which is awesome.

Last week my band opened for the Lollybombs, which is Michael Ivins and his wife playing psychedelic pop. They were the nicest folks. At the end of the night I got to fanboy all over Michael for about 15 minutes and ask him pressing questions like "Did you guys really do acid with Miley Cyrus?" (for the record, his answer was "The rest of the band did, I wasn't even living in the same state.")

Everyone knows that they haven't made good music in the 21st century. I'm the most angry about the Yoshimi album. That one somehow gets a pass from actual fans. It's awful, phony, clumsy music that makes me very sad (in a bad way). The drop-off between soft bulletin and Yoshimi is something to behold. It's not my favorite but I can definitely understand people calling SB their best.

On the other end of the spectrum, I'm not here for the Ronald worship. (yes, I've heard the isolated guitar thing.) He was totally great, unique, fit the band perfectly...but, for the most part, you could strip away his parts (or at least substitute something more straightforward) and the music wouldn't suffer all that much. It really was about the tunes themselves when they were a great band.
