The truth lies somewhere between classism
Can you talk some more about this? Like what distinctive things about a band like Social Distortion engenders this reaction, and is there an example you could give of a band in a similar style that would not be subject to that kind of prejudice?
Not the guy you asked but I think Paul Westerberg/Replacements tend to get props for similar reasons though the persona is admittedly a bit different (westerberg being the "likeable" loser while Ness is this tattoed, tough guy aspect of the qorking class species). Replacements are not as well liked on this forum as they tend to be elseqhere though which I was always personally fine with since I always found them a bit too pub-rock boring for my tastes outside of a few songs/albums...

Green Day - I still go back to the pre-Dookie stuff every now and again, some solid songwriting there.

Offspring - Owned Smash on tape back in the day but have not held up AT ALL and the later hits were the worst fucking shit especially for being EVERYWHERE during my last couple years of high school. Singer does seem like a pretty decent dude.

NOFX - Never really listened to them, no opinion

Social Distortion - Owned one of the big records and they were fine but I never need to hear their Johnny Cash cover ever again. Does seem like anything greaser/rockabilly/classic car pomade culture adjacent gets dissed on hard here generally (see also RFTC). "I Was Wrong" is a decent song.

Rancid - Owned Let's Go, and still have the "Radio, Radio" seven inch, I'll give them a couple of bangers here and there, but I'll take rockabilly pompade punk over mohawks and OI punk I guess.

Blink 182 - Terrible band, slight waffles for their couple of "we want to be Clarity-era Jimmy Eat World" tracks, easily the worst band that many of my friends love.

They're also surprisingly good at their instruments when they drop the silly punk schtick and actually try (as noted, The Decline and certain songs off White Trash, Ribbed, etc.)
Agree. Also Fat Mike is an interesting and open guy
What's interesting about him? Can you link one interview where he sounds remotely interesting?
Sorry for my shitty English

Oh fuck if I know. There was some moderately recent interview where he was discussing personal gender stuff frankly and I was surprised that he wasn’t a complete fucking lunkhead. Please don’t make me defend this guy more than I really have to, I’m just saying he exceeded my low expectations.

Back in 84 Mommys Little Monster was in same league as Black Flag, Misfits, Descendents, Agent Orange, 7 Seconds, Bad Religion and whatever other MRR approved bands were out then. Still love 3 tracks off that album. "Cold Feelings" from some later album is my favorite tune by any of the poll bands.

Green Day...couple of good pop songs but nothing I'd care to hear ever again.

NOFX, Rancid and Offspring are all equally bad. Would you rather be pissed on, shit on or vomited on?
