I use olive oil instead of butter in my homemade biscuits. It makes them light and flaky and freaking delicious. Sometimes I dip them in more olive oil!

Umm...beans on toast, mate. We have our issues, but none of them include putting beans on toast!

Honestly I'm far too lazy to bake homemade biscuits for breakfast, but I am now intrigued about dipping them in delicious olive oil along with butter.

Ghee? Dipping biscuits in olive oil? This thread has been a revelation.

We can conduct a thorough post-mortem once the dust settles, but I’m simply dumbstruck at the moment. Imagine seeing a lovely bit of bread and your first thought not being “I can’t wait to slather one side of that in butter and eat the fucker”. I just not a world I want to live in.

Oh! To be clear I'm a huge fan of buttered bread. I prefer the bread to be toasted, but I can't ever see myself hating on buttered bread. I think what the article is saying is on sandwiches Americans prefer to dress them with a mayo spread instead of butter. Prior to reading that article I would have never considered using butter as a spread on a pastrami, ham, chicken...basically any meat based sandwich, but I'm slowly realizing my error. I probably eat more homemade fried egg, cheese, and sausage/bacon sandwiches than I care to admit, and those get slathered in butter. Not that much of a leap from bacon to other meats. I'm sold.

I also just read about a sandwich with apple slices marinated in apple cider, honey, mustard, garlic, and olive oil placed on cheddar, arugula, and heavily slathered buttered bread. It sounds sounds divine.

My inner biscuit snob is always wondering how folks can even spend a dime on those. Never mind what a can actually goes for now.
